The Tuatha Dé Danann, the magnificent race of beings, also known as the Aos Sí, Aes Sídhe, Daoine Sídhe, The Good Neighbors, Fae, Fey, Fair Folk, People of the Mounds, or the Faerie of later folklore, inhabit the Other Worlds. This race of beings boasts of a diverse social and ethnic background, including many subspecies of the Fey. However, their animosity towards humans has lasted for centuries.
The Tuatha Dé left Tara (Ireland) and sought refuge after their defeat by the Milesians (ancestors of the Celtic population) by retreating to the burial mounds (side) pronounced “shee”. These Sidhe Mounds were underground caves and tunnels. The time period was approx 1200 BC.
The Tuatha Dé practiced earth magic while in the mounds until they could open the Shadow Realm (a parallel dimension) to access the Otherworlds. Below is a list of the different dimensions where the Tuatha Dé and the sub-species of the Tuatha Dé live. Other beings live in the Otherworlds besides the Tuatha Dé, such as the Fir Bolg (Fere-bolg),and theFomorians who found their own way to the Otherworlds. Tuatha Dé first lived in Mag Mell when they first arrivedbefore venturing to Tir na nÓg and building their first city-state. Small settlements of Tuatha Dé still live in Mag Mell and other realms.
Some members of the Fey travel back to Tara (Ireland) for various reasons, mainly for eight seasonal festivals consisting of the solstices and equinoxes. Sometimes they interact with humans, but this is rare.
The easiest way to travel through the Shadow Realm to the Otherworlds is to find a sacred Oak Tree (Eó Mugna) and cast a traveling spell to reach your destination. The tree’s roots have to be very deep to build a bond, without a strong tether to the magic, or if the tree roots are too weak a rift could open chaotically altering the traveler’s destination.
